Floppy Disk

The floppy disk was an extremely popular storage medium back in the 80s and 90s.

The floppy disk was made commercially available in 1971. By 1976, a number of manufacturers had developed their own versions. By the end of the 80s, the 3 1/2 inch floppy disk had appeared. The 3 1/2 inch version (pictured above) is probably the version that you remember the most, as these became extremely popular throughout the 90s.

If you're wondering why they're no longer produced anymore: Usage of the floppy disk began to decline after recordable CDs came onto the scene. CDs could store more data and were easy/cheap to manufacture.

Do you remember playing around with the metal shutter at the top? Do you remember the circular hub at the back? Remember the plastic cases that these things were stored in?
